Christmas in Venice, between what has been and what will be

Christmas in Venice always arrives quietly. The lights are never overwhelming, sounds soften, and the fog adds an extra touch of mystery. At this time of year, the city reveals itself as it truly is: essential, silent, elegant. The water reflects the festive lights, the air turns colder, and every walk becomes a small ritual, made of slow steps and lingering glances at hidden details.

It is a Venice that I particularly love. Perhaps because in winter, with fewer visitors around, it asks for less attention and gives so much more in return. It invites us to slow down, to pause, to experience time differently. Sitting in a warm café, crossing a bridge at sunset, heading home when darkness has already fallen—simple gestures, yet full of meaning.

The end of the year is also a moment when I stop and press rewind. 2025 has been an intense, full year, rich in emotions. Professionally, it’s a year I will carry with me: more and more people have chosen Suite735 as their place of the heart in Venice. Guests who return, who recommend us, who leave words that make me happy and encourage me to make Suite even more welcoming. Every stay is a story, and knowing that Suite735 has become part of so many journeys fills me with gratitude.

But 2025 has been above all a year that deeply changed my life, because my second daughter was born. With her, time has taken on a completely new value: more precious, more fragile, more real. You learn to choose how to use it, who to share it with, what to let go of. And perhaps this is exactly what Christmas reminds us of every year. My wish for these holidays is simple, yet heartfelt: that they may be serene, authentic days, made of real time. Time to be together, to listen, to slow down. Time lived without rushing, without noise, without unnecessary distractions.

Looking ahead to 2026, the hope is that it will be a year of true happiness. A year in which the word war is spoken less and less, and words like care, respect, and peace return to the centre of our lives. Small words, yet immense in meaning. And among all the plans, promises, and to-do lists, there is one thing always worth remembering: treating yourself to a getaway to Venice is always a good idea. To rediscover silence, beauty, and a little time for yourself.
